Movie NEWS - 25th Anniversary of Die Hard getting Larger-Than-Life Mural In L.A.

Are you ready to feel old? John McTiernan’s 1988 thriller Die Hard turns 25 this year. And the impact of the seminal cop story continues to be felt to this day. Die Hard simultaneously introduced American moviegoers to irascible hero John McClane, as well as to the blue-collar TV personality with a big enough ego to play him: Bruce Willis. The film’s success launched a generation of copycats. The phrase “Die Hard on a fill-in-the-blank” became a regular pitch around Hollywood studios. Basically, Die Hard is a tireless entity, and it’s about to be immortalized as such.

USA Today reports that a “giant,” permanent mural currently is being painted on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles to commemorate the anniversary of the original film and its leading hero. The mural will be set outside of Stage 8 on the lot, and reportedly will depict the famous scene, “Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs!” That will be confirmed during the reveal on January 31 as part of the press events for Willis’ latest film, A Good Day to Die Hard. Willis will be in attendance, as well as Jai Courtney and John Moore, his co-star and director for the fifthDie Hard film.

Fox owes Willis and Die Hard a ton, as the four-film franchise has earned the studio more than $1.1 billion at the world, wide box office (with the last two -- Live Free or Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance earning the most bank). It will be fascinating to see how many Die Hard fans return to the franchise for part five when it opens on February 13th. Will the interest still be there? If not, there will always be a mural to commemorate the franchise’s earlier successes.

Bat-NEWS : Original Batmobile from TV series auctioned for $4.62M

"Holy windfall, Batman!" The Batmobile just sold for $4.62 million.
The original 19-foot-long black, bubble-topped car used in the 1960s "Batman" TV show sold at auction Saturday.
The Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. in Scottsdale, Ariz., revealed the selling price but says the winning bidder has not been disclosed.
The car's owner -- auto customizer George Barris, of Los Angeles -- transformed a one-of-a-kind 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car into the sleek crime-fighting machine. It boasted lasers and a "Batphone" and could lay down smoke screens and oil slicks.
The iconic car was used by Adam West who starred as the Caped Crusader and by Burt Ward, his sidekick Robin known for exclamations beginning with --"Holy."
Barris' publicist says his client is pleased with the auction result.

Congratulations to the Barris' for selling this icon at an exciting price &
Rick Champagne of Arizona for buying it!!

There are only a few items in life that are able to capture the soul of an era. Not many people can say they own a pinnacle point in history that revolutionized a particular genre and an entire industry that followed in its footsteps. Maybe it was the catchy theme song that played in the beginning or the comedic/action-packed acting that was followed by "POW"/"BANG" in this TV show, but then there are the real fans that will strongly advocate, till this day, that coming home to watch the Batmobile soar out of the batcave in the Batman TV Series defines a lot of their first childhood loves to hit the television screens. The 1966 Batmobile by George Barris is the most recognized and popular piece of entertainment history, worldwide, that has become an icon, an icon that has been carried from generation to generation of Batmobiles to follow. This vehicle not only marks the significant bat logo that sits on the middle of its door, but a time in television history where they defied the odds of making a car become the star. Still as beautiful as when it first came out of the paint shop, this 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car has been apart of the personal collection of George Barris since he first bought it from the Ford Motor Company for $1. After having a meeting with the producer of the TV Show, William Dozier, George was left with the challenge of 15 days and $15,000 budget. Before George knew it, the Lincoln Futura was underway to becoming what others will always remember to be the Original Batmobile. Besides seeing the likes of the infamous, Adam West and Burt Ward (Batman and Robin), this car has been on a variety of television/movie sets, car shows and museums around the nation. To go even further, this car is exclusively featured in Christopher Nolan's Batmobile Documentary, which is one of the major bonuses in the Dark Knight Rise's DVD. History is being made here at Barret Jackson. This is the 1st TIME that the original Batmobile has been up for sale, since George bought it for that $1. Whether you're a car collector, entertainment enthusiast, or an average Joe looking to buy his dream car, don't miss out on adding this to your very own batcave. Included with the Batmobile will be historical memorabilia and documentation from George's personal archive. **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY**
